Advanced Settings

Buffer Size:
This determines the size of the buffer to use when wiping files.  A larger buffer will result in faster wipe speeds but will take up more resources.  Do not set the buffer size too high as it might cause your system to hang.  The default size is 4096 Bytes.

Use "Auto Buffer" when possible:
If this option is checked, XL Delete will ignore the default buffer size and chose a different buffer size for each file it wipes.  This option greatly decreases the amount of time it takes to wipe a file because XL Delete will determine the best buffer size to use for every file so small files will be wiped with small buffers while larger files will be wiped with larger buffers.  It can decrease the amount of time needed to wipe a file by as much as 50% without having any effect on security.

Show Verify Warning Before Deleting:
If this option is checked, XL Delete will show a summary of all the files and folders that will be deleted after you click on the Secure Delete icon from the toolbar.  This gives you one last chance to double check the files you intend to delete.  Remember that once you delete a file, you will not be able to get it back.

Automatically Check For Updates:
If this option is checked, XL Delete will connect to the Internet every 15 days to check for an updated version.  A message will pop up if an updated version is available for download.  You can also check for updates manually from the Help menu.

Disable Low Disk Space Warnings When Wiping:
If this option is checked, XL Delete will disable the Windows low disk space warnings.  Useful for when you are doing a free space wipe.  Since this is a system setting, you may have to log back into Windows before it takes effect and it will effect every other Windows application.  You can always restore the warning by unchecking this option.
