XL Delete contains three drive tools that allow you to sanitize your fixed and removable drives.

Please close any programs that are running before using the Drive Tools. Active programs running at the same time can compromise the security of the wipe and may even cause it to fail.

To use the drive tools simply select the drive that you want to work with from the left hand side, pick the wipe type to use, and choose one of the available operations:

Wipe Free Space:

This option allows you to securely delete the free space of a drive.  This allows you to clean your hard drive from any file fragments that have been left over by files that were previously deleted without a secure delete tool.

A free space wipe can take a very long time depending on the size of the free space on the drive and the wipe method you chose to use. It is recommended that you not use your computer while the wipe is in progress. For best results, defrag your hard drive after a free space wipe.

Lock Free Space:

This option allows you to lock some of the free space on a drive. A free space lock is basically a large securely wiped file that will take up space on your hard drive and prevent any files from being written to that area of the hard drive. This is useful if you have a very large hard drive with a lot of free space. You can choose to lock most of your free space to keep Windows from writing to that area of your hard drive. Whenever you need the free space, simply delete the lock file and you will have all your free space back. The lock files will are located in the "XL Delete Locks" folder on the root of the drive whose free space you lock.

You will need to specify the percentage of the drive to lock:

A free space lock can take a very long time depending on the size of the selected free space to lock on the drive and the wipe method you chose to use.

You can remove and resize lock files using the Manage Lock Files button.  (This will only show up on drives that have existing lock files.)

Lock File Manager

You can resize or remove a lock file by selecting the file from the list and clicking on the Remove or Resize buttons.  Use the resize slider to pick the file's new size.  Note that you can only shrink a lock file.  It is not secure to make one bigger, you should create an additional lock file if you need to lock more free space.

Purge File Table:

This option will purge your drive's file table to get rid of any file name information that may have been left behind by deleted files.  This is an optional step after running a free space wipe.
