Using The Scheduler
Previous Top Next

XL Delete features a powerful and easy to use scheduler where you can automate the wiping of any file, folder, the recycle bin, or Internet file cleaning. To bring up the scheduler setup screen, choose 'Scheduler' from the Tools menu or from the Tools side bar.

The scheduler works by specifying tasks for it to do either on the computer startup, shutdown, daily at a certain time, or specify a certain day at a certain time.  To add a task, select 'Add Task' from the toolbar.  Note: To delete a task, select it from the timeline then choose 'Remove Task.'

In the Add Task wizard will guide you through the process of adding a task. You can specify all the options for the task to add.  Each task must have a unique name, you might want to give it something meaningful such as 'Delete Cookies' or 'Wipe Disk on Startup.'  You can choose from all The Wipe Methods for each task.

The first thing you will have to do is give your task a name, choose an interval, and pick a time.
You have the choice of several intervals:
Startup - Will run the task on Windows startup.
Shutdown - Will give you the option to run the task when you restart or shutdown Windows.
Daily - Will run the task daily at the time chosen.
Days - Will run the task on the day you chose at the time chosen.

After you name the task and chose an interval, you will have to choose what you want the task to do.  You have 5 options:
1.   Wipe a file with the option to not remove the file.
2.   Wipe an entire folder with the option of not removing the folders and files.
3.   Wipe the free space of a drive.
4.   Wipe the recycle bin.
5.   Run the Internet cleaner with the options picked.

You will then get a chance to verify your task settings.

Once you have added all your tasks, click on the Stat Scheduler button to run the XL Delete scheduler. The Scheduler will run as a separate program and will only have a tray icon.  It will always load on startup if you choose to use it.  If you choose not to use the Scheduler, come back to the scheduler screen and click on the Stop Scheduler button.

NOTE about shutdown tasks:
Due to a restriction in Windows, XL Delete does not know if you choose to restart your PC or to shut it down.  If you have a shutdown task scheduled, a dialog will pop up and ask if you want to run the scheduled task then shutdown, run and restart, or cancel the scheduled task.  You will have 15 seconds to choose before it auto cancels and just shuts down or restarts.
